South Sudan Bureau of Standards Blocks Substandard Fuel Shipment at Nimule Border

Nimule, South Sudan – In a decisive move to uphold public safety and environmental protection, the South Sudan Bureau of Standards (SSBS) has intercepted 11 fuel trucks carrying substandard fuel during a routine inspection at the Nimule border crossing.

According to the Bureau, the fuel underwent quality assessment procedures and laboratory testing, which revealed that it failed to meet the East African Community’s approved safety and performance specifications. As a result, the shipment was declared unfit for use within South Sudan.

Citing its mandate to protect public health, ensure consumer safety, and preserve the environment, the SSBS has ordered that the rejected fuel be returned to its country of origin.

“We remain committed to safeguarding the South Sudanese market from harmful and non-compliant products,” the Bureau stated in an official release. “Our role is to ensure that only fuel that meets regional and national quality standards is allowed into the country.”

The interception underscores the SSBS’s increasing vigilance at South Sudan’s ports of entry, especially amid growing concerns about fuel adulteration, engine damage, and air pollution caused by low-grade petroleum imports.

The Bureau called on all importers to strictly adhere to quality control requirements and warned that non-compliant shipments will face immediate rejection going forward.
