Although there were no injuries or fatalities, the fire damaged sections of the building and led to the destruction of some documents. Eyewitnesses said smoke could be seen rising from the compound as firefighters responded to contain the flames.
Wani, who visited the site shortly after the fire was extinguished, called the incident “unfortunate” and emphasized the need to determine what caused it. He directed the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate both the source of the fire and the extent of the losses incurred.
Jimmy Atilio, the Acting Secretary for Culture, Information, and Communication, confirmed the party’s leadership would not speculate on the cause of the fire until the committee completes its work. He also reassured the public that party operations would continue as usual.
Several senior SPLM officials, including Daniel Awet Akot, Koang Danhier, and Mary Apayi Ayiga, joined Wani in assessing the damage. Their presence underscored the party’s concern about the safety and integrity of its headquarters.

The investigation is expected to begin immediately, with findings to be released once the committee finalizes its report. Party insiders say the SPLM is treating the matter with urgency, especially given the sensitive nature of the materials housed at the site.
