Drunk UPDF Officer Dumped in Moyo for Refusing to Pay Fare

A drunken officer from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) caused a scene after refusing to pay his transport fare, leading to his unceremonious ejection from a public vehicle in Moyo town. The officer, identified only as Anyama by his name tag, was reportedly heavily intoxicated and reeking of alcohol.

Passengers on board the Toyota Premio, registration number UAU 914C, had boarded from Afogi landing site, only to be overwhelmed by the strong stench of alcohol coming from the officer. Several voiced their concerns to the driver, expressing discomfort and frustration over the foul odor.

The situation escalated when the officer not only dismissed the passengers’ complaints but also arrogantly refused to pay the standard fare of 5,000 Ugandan shillings. According to eyewitnesses, he behaved with an air of entitlement, expecting free transport because of his military status.

Upon reaching Moyo town, the driver made the decision to drop the officer off, choosing to continue the journey without him. Despite efforts to reason with him, Anyama remained defiant and refused to settle the fare. The driver, backed by the frustrated passengers, had no choice but to offload him along with his luggage.

This incident has sparked discussion on social media, with many criticizing the behavior of armed forces personnel who abuse their positions. Locals expressed concern about the growing trend of impunity among security officers, especially in rural transport systems.

Authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident, but residents are calling for disciplinary action against the officer to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
