While the exact toll remains unknown, emergency volunteers and residents confirmed that civilians were among the wounded, with RSF bombardment now a daily threat in the besieged city.
“Survival has become a daily struggle,” said the El Fasher resistance committees in a statement issued Tuesday. “Food has completely run out. Many families are now forced to eat tree leaves and animal feed just to stay alive.”
According to the resistance committees, at least 20 civilians have been killed since early May in repeated RSF mortar attacks. Shells continue to strike homes, markets, and shelters, leaving large sections of El Fasher in ruins.
A City on the Brink
The humanitarian situation in El Fasher has deteriorated into what residents are calling “catastrophic.” With supply routes severed and humanitarian aid blocked, famine looms in the city of over one million residents.
Community kitchens—once lifelines for the displaced and impoverished—have largely shut down due to a lack of food and funding. The few that remain are overwhelmed, unsupported, and unable to meet the rising demand.
“Even a dish of lentils, once the simplest meal, has become a rare luxury,” the resistance committees reported. “Most people rely on whatever they can scavenge from a devastated environment.”
In a chilling sign of desperation, some households have begun using industrial-grade salt—intended for bakeries—to cook the few remaining scraps they have, further underscoring the collapse of the city’s food supply chain.
Targeting Civilians
The RSF continues to launch mortar and artillery attacks on densely populated areas, including markets, homes, and displacement camps, exacerbating both the humanitarian crisis and civilian trauma.
“The shelling is indiscriminate,” said one volunteer medic. “We treat injuries every day, and many victims are women and children.”
With roads cut off and the city surrounded, El Fasher is becoming increasingly uninhabitable. Aid agencies have not been able to reach the city for weeks, despite urgent pleas from local communities.
Urgent Call for Aid
The El Fasher resistance committees issued a direct appeal to international humanitarian organizations, urging immediate support.
“We call on global relief agencies and institutions to urgently support the remaining community kitchens, which have become the last hope for thousands of displaced and impoverished people.”
As El Fasher faces relentless bombardment, starvation, and total isolation, residents warn that time is running out. With no end in sight to the siege and no visible international response, the people of El Fasher remain trapped in a deepening catastrophe, pleading for help the world has yet to deliver.
