How the Peace Agreement is Being Shredded Before Our Eyes

The 2018 peace agreement was meant to bring an end to war and a beginning of healing. Instead, it has become a tool for manipulation, delay, and division. Key provisions remain unimplemented. Nuer leaders are sidelined. Opposition parties are fractured by state-sponsored interference.

When the government replaces SPLM-IO leaders loyal to Machar with handpicked allies, it is not building peace—it is breaking it. When commissions are stacked with loyalists, the spirit of compromise dies.

This agreement was signed in blood. It cannot be changed unilaterally without consequence.

If the Revitalized Agreement is to mean anything, it must be defended in its original form. This includes the rightful roles of all parties, including the Nuer-led SPLM-IO.

The international guarantors of peace must intervene. Otherwise, South Sudan will drift back into chaos, and this time, the betrayal will be written in the ink of hypocrisy.
