Tragedy in Jebel: Wall Collapse During Heavy Rain Claims Lives of Family of Five

A heartbreaking tragedy struck the Jebel area of Juba last night at around 8:00 PM, when a massive wall collapsed onto a rakuba (traditional shelter), killing an entire family of five during heavy rainfall.

According to reports shared on social media by Zinariyya Chuol Got, a relative of the deceased, the victims included a father, mother, and their three children. The family had taken shelter in their home during the storm when the wall, weakened by the persistent rain, suddenly gave way—instantly crushing the structure and all those inside.

The news has sent shockwaves across the community, with many expressing grief and frustration over the unsafe living conditions in many parts of Juba.

As South Sudan enters the rainy season, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by poor infrastructure and the urgent need for safer housing, particularly in densely populated or informal settlement areas.

Authorities are yet to release the names of the victims or issue an official statement regarding the incident.

The team at nuer.tv extends heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this devastating loss.

May their souls rest in peace.
